(Patriot Insider) – The love of money truly is the root of all evil. This could not be more clear in a tragic incident that took the lives of four innocent people, all over one man’s selfish desire for money.
On Saturday, four people of the same family were brutally murdered at the hands of ex-con 25-year-old Malik Halfacre who reportedly became enraged when the mother of his 6-month-old child refused to give him half of her stimulus check.
After Halfacre got into a verbal altercation with 25-year-old Jeanettrius Moore over the stimulus money he left and returned, shooting Moore’s 7-year-old daughter Eve, her 23-year-old brother Daquan, her 44-year-old mother Tomeeka Brown, and her 35-year-old cousin Anthony Johnson.
Moore was also shot but has survived.
According to a report by Fox59.com, the incident started when Halfacre came to Moore’s home on Saturday, in violation of a restraining order she had against him, and demanded that she give him half of her stimulus check.
Moore’s cousin Wendy Johnson told Fox 59.com, “He wanted some of Jeanettrius’ tax money, stimulus money,” adding, “She had just got her money, and he wanted half of her money.”
Johnson says that Moore told Halfacre that he didn’t “deserve” any of the money because she works and takes care of their child while he doesn’t “do anything.”
She reportedly offered to give him $450 and told him to “take it or leave it” but he was insistent that she give him half.
Johnson says that Halfacre said “I’m gonna get that money,” the day before he massacred the family.
When he returned, Moore’s brother Daquan stepped in as Halfacre began searching through Moore’s purse, demanding the money.
“Daquan was trying to save his sister. He was taking up for his sister,” Johnson recalled. She explained that Daquan pushed Halfacre and that’s when Halfacre got out the gun and “started killing everybody.”
“He shot Daquan first. He shot Anthony. He turned around, and he shot my Auntie Tomeeka. My Auntie Tomeeka said, ‘Malik!’ and he shot her again. He came back and shot Daquan for the second time and somewhere between little Baby Eve got hit somewhere and she was screaming, she was screaming.”
Johnson says that Halfacre took Moore and their baby daughter out of the house, to his vehicle where he strapped the baby into a car seat before going back inside the house. Once inside the house again he shot Moore’s cousin Anthony for a second time.
While he was inside, Moore ran for her life and began frantically knocking on doors for help. When Halfacre came out of the house, he fled with the baby in the car.
After a 24-hour manhunt and a 4-hour long standoff in which police had to use tear gas to force him out, Halfacre was taken into custody and the baby safely returned to Moore.
Halfacre is being held at the Marion County Jail on charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery and other charges.
Back in 2017, Halfacre was charged with shooting a man 5 times but pled guilty to a lesser charge and was released in 2018 only to go on to take the lives of four innocent people.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with the family members’ final expenses.
